Family Health Organizations, Groups, and Teams

Family physicians practising in Ontario often practice in Family Health Organizations (FHOs), Family Health Groups (FHGs) or Family Health Teams (FHTs), and these entities often require legal advice and assistance, either with respect to policies and procedures, staffing issues, and regulatory compliance, or when disputes arise.

Our firm has extensive experience dealing with the range of practice governance structures created by the Ministry of Health, from the first introduction by the Ministry to the revisions and additions that have occurred over time. We are well-versed about these governance structures and experienced in handling interpersonal and business disputes arising in this context including government submissions and reports, OHIP and billing matters, contracts, policies, forms, workplace issues and related professional and patient care issues.

When disputes arise among physicians in group practices or arrangements, we represent individual physicians or practice groups before regulators, boards and tribunals, and courts in a range of matters.

We also provide FHOs, FHGs and FHTs with advice and training on privacy and help manage patient complaints or breaches when they arise, and on governance issues and challenges.
