Insurance companies operate in a highly regulated and highly scrutinized legal environment, and often require assistance complying with the laws governing the delivery of services and their relationships with their insureds. We assist insurance companies in responding to complaints and investigations by the Financial Services Regulatory Authority (FSRA) (which assumed the functions of the Financial Services Commission of Ontario (FSCO) in 2019) as well as the Privacy Commissioner of Canada. We also provide advice and assistance to insurance companies regarding privacy laws and other compliance issues including insurers’ relationships with assessors and assessment companies. We represent insurers in disputes, and assist them in dealing with inquiries, challenges and complaints by their insureds or their legal counsel, whether in the context of ongoing litigation over a claim or otherwise. Through providing a legal opinion or responding on behalf of insurers to demands, we provide much needed support in challenging circumstances.
